Microchipping

Microchipping

One of the worst feelings a pet owner can experience is the realization that their pet has gone missing. Unfortunately, lost pets don’t always make it back to their owners, which can make it seem like you’ll never see your pet again if it gets lost.

Forest Crossing Animal Hospital wants to encourage you to microchip your pet, even if they live entirely indoors—because even indoor pets can escape and become lost. Unlike collars and tags, microchips can’t fall off, and they serve as permanent identification for a pet’s entire life. Microchips are designed to last for 25 years, meaning they never need to be removed or recharged during your pet’s lifetime.

Microchipping a pet is simple, relatively painless, and very affordable. Once implanted, authorities only need to scan the chip to see your pet’s unique ID number, which is linked to your contact information via an extensive national database. But remember: a microchip is only useful if your contact information is correct, so remember to update your pet’s microchip number if you move or get a new phone number.

Forest Crossing Animal Hospital uses Home Again microchips, which have been responsible for more than 3,000,000 happy reunions—and counting! Basic Home Again membership is included with every chip, and an upgrade to a Premium membership gets you things like free access to a 24/7 veterinary hotline, travel assistance, rapid alerts and personalized posters should your pet go missing, and more.
